Outside CRS reporting

Why the US stays out of the CRS

The Common Reporting Standard is the OECD's reporting system. Once a year, banks in over 100 countries and territories report foreigners' accounts to their home tax authorities: name, tax ID, balance and income.

The US never signed the CRS. It relies on its own laws and bilateral agreements and sees no need to join. That puts an account at a US bank outside the CRS exchange.

And you get what no other non-participant offers: the world's largest economy, the dollar and a legal system that protects property, including property owned by foreigners.

Important: you declare all income from your US account on your tax return in the country where you are tax resident. So there is no tax advantage.

What you get

What your US account does for you

01

Your own US account

A personal account at a major US bank, in dollars and in your name. Outside the CRS exchange.

02

US credit in your name

Your US credit history starts with the account and your first card. In America, it decides whether you get the apartment, the car and the phone contract.

03

Premium cards

As your US credit score grows, cards with lounge access, travel insurance and points for business class come within reach. In our experience after 12 to 24 months, with no guarantee.

04

Your Plan B

A second financial identity outside the EU, set up before you need it. If you move to the US later, you won't be starting from zero.

How it works

How to open your US account

  1. 1
    Order.

You order online. Shortly after, your personal point of contact gets in touch for your first session.

  2. 2
    Your ITIN.

We apply right away with ITIN Express. For applications from abroad, the IRS quotes nine to eleven weeks.

  3. 3
    Your US address.

A real US residential address, not a PO box, with its own phone line and a utility bill.

  4. 4
    Your trip.

You travel to the US once, for your appointment at a major US bank. There you open your account and apply for your first card. Expect questions about where you live and what the account is for.

  5. 5
    Your US credit grows.

Pay on time, keep utilization low. After around six months, you can have your first FICO score.
